Good day

I want to find out if anyone of my family took part in the boer war.

My name is Ryno Joubert, my father is Leonard Daniel Joubert (born in 1967), my grandfather is Willem Johannes Joubert (born in 1943), my great grandfather is Leendert Daniel Joubert (born in 1907), my great great grandfather is Josua Andries Joubert (born in 1856) and my great great great grandfather is Gideon Johannes Joubert (born in 1812)

Hope anyone can help me.

Regards

Hello Ryno

The only one who could have served in the Boer war (1899-1902) was Josua Andries Joubert and the only name partially matching that in the records is a Josua Joubert who served with the Carolina Commando.

Where did your family, particularly Josua, come from? The commandos were raised locally from the men in the area.

Good day Rory

Thank you for the reply. Josua Andries Joubert lived in Carolina. He had two farms there (Rietvlei and Jaaglust). His farms were surrendered and then he moved to the Belfast Refugee camp in May 1901.

The Josua Joubert you are referring to could be him :)

Do you maybe have more info regarding Josua and his participation in the war? It would be very interesting for me to know that one of my ancestors fought in the war.

Ryno

The information you seek can be found on what is called a Vorm B - the form completed by the Boer forces to claim their medal from about 1922 onwards.

Send me a PM and I will provide you with the contact details of Dewald Nel in Pretoria who is able to source this document for you iro Josua Joubert.

Good day Rory

I found the Vorm B of Josua Joubert. He served in Wyk 3 of the Carolina Commando. But I am not sure if it is my great great grandfather. My Josua Andries Joubert died on 5 Jan 1922. And there is an application letter written by Josua Joubert on 24 Jan 1922. Which means that it could not have been my great great grandfather. But there is no other Josua Joubert who fought under the Carolina Commando. This means that the Vorm B could belong to my Great great grandfather, but it is unlikely.

I found another Josua Joubert. He went to the Middelburg RF Camp and then the Barberton RF Camp in 1901. He was apparently born in Wakkerstroom.

Could I maybe have posession of his Vorm B??

Kind regards

Ryno
