:woohoo:
Hi everyone.

I'm an avid taphophile and last week came across the grave in Auckland, New Zealand of Corporal Tom CUTTS.

He enlisted in 1914 in Greymouth, New Zealand aged 30 for service in WW1, however previous to this he was originally born in Mexborough, Yorkshire and according to his military records for service in WW1 online, he served in South Africa and has 12 months with 28th Battalion, 129th Coy. Imperial Yeomanry. [Disbandment].

In WW1 he received a Military Medal for "acts of bravery in the field" but i cannot find what those acts are.

Anyway, he is not related to me at all but I thought someone might know more about him.

A fuller bio [outlining a very human man!] is with his grave photographs that I have taken and which are on flickr at:

Sarndra,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for this interesting addition.

I confess to not knowing what a taphophile was but, having looked it up, I find I am one too! For anyone else who doesn't know, it means a passion for and enjoyment of cemeteries.

Best wishes
David

lol! Yes...it's a word that gets everyone thinking :)

I had done a search for Tom in the 28th Batt 129th Coy. list on here before posting but I see he isn't included. Interesting.

Oh well, you never know what might turn up!

I love the layout of this website. Brilliant.

Cheers

Hi Sarndra, welcome aboard! I can find 39496 Pte. T Cutts, 129th Squadron, 28th Imperial Yeomanry on the Queen's South Africa Medal (QSA) roll (WO 100/129 pg 182) as QSA with Cape Colony and South Africa 1902 clasps.

A fellow taphophile,

Mark

It's through posts like this that names get added. There were so many people involved in the war that lists are a work in progress. Cutts was quite a guy! That's a terrific job you've done on Cutts and the others. Well done! You're keeping their memory alive by what you're doing.

Cheers,

Mark
