Does anyone know where I could possibly find more information on my Great Grand Father above. The only evidence I have is his service medal.
There is reference to him signing up in King Williams Town - 4th December 1901.

To avoid possible confusion..... The District Mounted Rifles was raised in 1899, and in 1900 it changed its name to Frontier Light Horse.

Except for the fact that both were raised in the Eastern Cape, the Boer War Frontier Light Horse had no direct connection with the regiment of this name that did such good service in the Eastern Cape Frontier Wars of 1877 - 1879, and Sekukuniland and the Zulu War in 1879. In the latter war, the FLH had many men killed in action at Hlobane, and two of its number were awarded the Victoria Cross in later actions. There probably was a deliberate implied link between the Boer War regiment and the FLH of the Zulu War, perhaps in anticipation (actually a vain hope) of similar glory.

Regards
Brett

Very nice, I should take a careful look through WO126/46-47 at Kew, if I were you, hopefully his original paper will have survived.

It is a lovely medal and it is nice that it remains where it belongs, in your own family, it would have been earned the hard way, I am sure, please look after it.
