Morning Meurig,
I think Dean will struggle with this, Farrow was recalled to the colours on the 1st of January 1900, posted to Number 6 Depot on the 3rd of August 1900, presumably whilst in South Africa, as the service shown in from the 24th of March 1900 until the 2nd of August 1902.
He is on the main roll of the 78th Battery in WO100/138, interestingly, his initial shown on that is J rather than E, but, the number is correct, he clearly missed out on operations to relieve Ladysmith, he appears on their nominal roll in WO100/143 which shows his attachment from the reserve and he is on Number 6 Depot's KSA roll in WO100/308, which does suggest additional service with 39th Battery, perhaps this was prior to his service with 78th Battery, he came away with the three state clasps on his QSA and the KSA with both clasps.
Regards Frank.

Hello Dean,
My thoughts on this would be, if that photograph was an original contemporary example actually in your family rather than you finding a copy, then yes, it would be a very safe assumption to make, in this case, it could well be Farrow, but, I think you might have problems proving it.
A specialist forensic photographer might be able to assist you if the both photographs contain enough detail.
Regards Frank Kelley

Thanks for reply,I have seen some service records of his, that confirms the 39th battery and 6th depot but don't really know enough about subject, was the 6th depot in south Africa and where was it.?
The reason for my strange question was I recently came across a photo posted on a forum entitled R section 78th battery RFA captured De watts gun.
There are around 20 men in the picture and one of them I am 99% sure is my great grandfather when placed next to the only surging picture of him in later years,so really by finding out if a R section did exist and he was in it,it would tie up a bit more with the photo.
Any way once again thanks again for replying and helping out.
Best regards Dean

Hi Meurig,Frank
Hopefully this file is attached!
The photo is 12th August 1900
And relates to Lord Methuen's forces capturing the gun from De wet.
The gun was one of Armstrongs taken at Stormberg.
Best regards Dean
