I'm hoping someone can help point me in the right direction please - any assistance is much apprieciated.

My Great Grandfather L/Cpl William George Chalkley 10093 served in the RAMC. I have copies of the papewrwork showing his meadal entitlements (attached - hopefully!)

As the service papers for this period are not available on ancestry I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction in order to look for his military service history. I live in Ireland so a trip to the UK National Archives will need some planning

Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer

JD

PS I have also attached a photo of WillyG (as I like to call him) in uniform but I am unsure if this is WW1 - if anyone could enlighten me that would be super - cheers

Victorian era service papers on FindmyPast.co.uk.

But the picture you posted shows a WWI era uniform so one would not expect to find papers at FindmyPast - they should have been carried forward and filed with the WWI papers which are on Ancestry.

Thanks for the info SWB

I'm only starting out on all of this so the uniform clarification is much appreciated. I can't seem to find him in the WW1 records on ancestry though there is a W Chalkley RAMC listed we don't think it's 'our' W Chalkley.

Still it's facinating ooking at the service records of all the possible WillyG's

Thanks again - your help is very much appreciated
