You, or someone commissioned by you, would obtain a reader ticket, order the relevant box containing the papers for each of the three regiments, present his/her self in the reading room on the particular day in question and then go through each of them until the man in question is found (or not, as the case maybe) then check his details shown on the paper/papers with the details of your great grandfather.
