I'm trying to find out more about Pte Charles Brettle, KRRC (my great uncle, b. 1879 in Chester). The Talana medal roll states QSA (4), QSA known to exist. I presume the medal is in SA, and that he settled there after the Boer War because until a few weeks ago I did not know he joined the army and my father and grandmother (Charles' sister) never mentioned him. Does anyone know any more?

1079 Charles Brettle's service records are online at Find My Past.
His QSA clasps are Talana,Defence of Ladysmith, Laings Nek and Transvaal a really nice medal.

Paul,
Thanks for the guide. So Charles Brettle went to India in 1900, presumably in 2 battalion KRR. He then served nearly 6 years there before returning to the UK in 1906, at which point I can't trace him. So, I'm still wondering where his QSA is now and how, where did whoever's got it come by it?
Regards
Richard

Hi Richard,

I very much hope you can find your family medal
You could start by joining the British Medal Forum and posting a want request.
You could also place a want add in Medal News a monthly publication.
Good luck with your search.

Cheers
Paul :)
