I had a relative who served with the 43rd Co. 12th BN Imperial Yeomanry.

His records show that he was "Severely wounded Trenafontein 21 Jan. 1902".

Can anybody please tell me where Trenafontein is / was, and going out on a limb here, what the 43rd was actually involved in there at that time?

The latter is gravy, the meat of my query is the geographical location of where he was wounded.

Many thanks in advance for you consideration of the above and any help you can extend.

Best wishes, kindest regards to you and yours.

Ian

Hello Ian,

I can tell you that in the casualty rolls the place is named Trenanfontein however, the place is actually Truerfontein which is near Machadodorp in the Province of Mpumalanga.

Hi Adrian,
Is this another case of a place having changed its name, or are there other issues here?

Many thanks Adrian. That was a quick response.

In echoing Frank's query, can we pin the place down exactly or has it "disappeared" over time or through name change?

Regardless, thank you for bringing to close a long term query in the matter of where my relative was injured.

Very much appreciated.

Hello Frank and Ian,

Personally I think that the name was just incorrectly entered into the casualty rolls (which won't be the first time). The place "Truerfontein" is a farm today,so I believe.
