'A wintery scene in South Africa: The burial ground at Colesberg covered with snow.

Snow is not generally associated in our minds with South Africa, but the extremes of climate are accentuated in the Northern Karoo, where the summer heats and the frosts in the winter are equally severe. Colesberg is 4,400 feet above sea-level, and thought it is sometimes visited with a heavy fall of snow, the winter days there are very enjoyable, the air being keen and bright, with a maximum of sunshine.'
