'Escorting a prisoner to Cape Town

The man on the right of the picture is Johannes Pretorius, of the free State Artillery, who was attached to Kritzinger's column, and was taken prisoner at Vlaagte Plaatz in the company of a well-known rebel. Pretorius was escorted to Cape Town by a company of Brabant's Horse. Our illustration is from a photograph by G H Levey'.

The scene in front of the Town Hall

When the men from the Salt River Railway works arrived at the Town Hall in the course of their procession through the town, the Mayor came out and addressed them, and cheer were given with the greatest enthusiasm for the Queen and Major General Baden-Powell.
