Reception of the 16th Lancers at Cape Town

The 16th Lancers (Red Lancers as they are known) were despatched from India to South Africa on the application of Lord Roberts. On their arrival in Cape Town a request was made that the regiment should march through the town. The request was granted and the regiment was received with the wildest enthusiasm. The 16th Lancers is a very distinguished regiment, having a list of battle honours surpassed by no other cavalry and equalled by only one.
