I came across this group being sold on Monday by Pump House Auctions in Hampshire.



From the picture, the group is excellent and is accompanied by lots of information.

The catalogue entry does not do the group justice:

700 Group of 10 medals, awarded to Private Albert Edward Gardner, East Surrey Regiment and later Sergeant of the 4th Battalion Hampshire regiment. Including Queens South Africa medal with 1901, 1902 and Transvaal Bars, 1914 Star, service under fire bar, Victory medal with oak leaf, The Military Medal, Africa General Service Medal with Somaliland Clasp and an MBE. with extensive career documentation, silver plated presentation tray etc

Will be interesting to see what it sells for......

Are there still occasional bargains to be had at provincial auctions? Presumably, the Internet has increased the exposure of even remote and small auctions.

I think that is the case. Issuing catalogues on line and accumulator sites which bring together and make searchable a wide range of auctioneers; information is certainly raising their profile.

I will look for the results from tomorrow with interest.
