Hello Mike,
Can't see any connection with the Bushveldt Carbineers, both WO127 and WO100 are very clear, Henry Fulthorpe served in the Pietersburg Light Horse from the 25th of January 1902 to the 1st of July 1902, his medal and Transvaal clasp was issued on either the 12th or 13th of November 1903 and his South Africa 1902 clasp on the 25th or 27th of April 1906, depending on which part of WO100/263 you look at!
Still, on the face of it, a very good, quite scarce medal, for service in the Northern Transvaal when the war had entered a new and far more brutal final phase.
When he was discharged and the Pietersburg Light Horse disbanded his place in the Spelonken district would have been taken by a member the South African Constabulary, all of them, the whole detachment, sent by Baden Powell himself, at the special request of the District Commissioner, Canadian! and all hand picked, no more brigands! :)
Regards Frank

I think that I'd rather have one of those Canadians! :)

The medal sold for US $960 or £600.

The advertisement contains an excellent picture of the naming:

Many years ago I did a study of the BVC and PLH medal rolls.

I calculated that only 57 medals were issued named to either the BVC or the PLH. The reason for this was that so many of the officers and men had prior service or went on to serve in other units.

There does not seem to have been any rhyme or reason as to whether a medal was named to BVC or PLH. Some served in both but it is also possible to find medals named BVC to men who served only in the PLH and vice versa. In Fulthorpe's case the naming is correct.
