Help, please.

I have a QSA/KSA pair to this man, but cannot find any record of his entitlement on the nominal roll WO 100/184 or through Ancestry. Can anybody help? Is there an obvious answer I'm missing? I believe a casualty should show up on the roll as deceased, invalided etc? QSA claps are CC,OFS, TVL and KSA Clasps are SA 01 And SA 02.

Incidentally, the only R Charnock who shows up on the medal rolls through Ancestry against South Africa is described by them as belonging to the 4th Battalion Kings German Legion! This was in being during the Napoleonic Wars and disbanded in 1816. The actual roll is to the 4th Battalion King's Liverpool Regiment-just shows you can't always believe what you read.

Thanks

Patrick

Patrick,

Can I ask if this man is a casualty? He is not listed on Steve Watt's roll.

I am also having trouble finding him on the rolls.

Kind regards
David

That index entry on the Ancestry site is amazing:

Thank for looking. I know nothing about him. I was just speculating that, as a casualty, his name might not appear on the roll, but I don't think that would normally be the case.I can't think of a reason why he wouldn't be there, but maybe it's not so uncommon- I posted a similar query a few days ago about 11871 A Powe, 10th Mountain Battery, whom I can't find either.

The frustration was alleviated by finding the reference to the KGL!

Patrick,

There are a couple of potential matches in FMP:

CHARNOCK, Richard. Born 1867, Ormskirk, Lancashire. WO97 Chelsea

CHARNOCK, Roger. Born 1880, Warrington, Lancashire. WO96 Militia

Thank you for these leads. Roger Charnock looks a good fit. Joined 3rd Batt E Lancs (militia) 31/3/97 and then 1st Battn on 14/3/98. I'll do some more digging.
