The London Gazette citation hardly does justice to 3876 Sgt F. Merritt, Bedfordshire Regiment.

The Gazette entry is certainly shortened, instead referring to the entry above for Worthing. In the Regimental history The Story of The Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment (The 16th Regiment of Foot) Vol I 1688 - 1913 page 354 Army Orders 7 August 1901 are quoted - "For gallantry in action specially brought to the notice of the Commander-in-Chief and good leading in action in the capture of a Boer convoy at Rooval, Rustenburg, Transvaal 28th June 1901 and also on another occasion when he pursued a sniper four miles alone and eventually killed him."
6229 Cpl Arthur Frederick Aldridge Bedfordshire Regiment (later Lieutenant Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Regt)

7361 Pte Thomas Charles Aldridge Grenadier Guards (served in RAMC & Labour Corps during the Great War)
