A very fine group of medals! As Frank has pointed out, it is very odd to have German clasps added to a non-contemporary British Victory Medal. There must be an interesting story behind that 'improvement' to the medal! The unit named on the WWI medals sounds small and interesting. Do you know anything about it?

Regards
Brett

Gentlemen,
The unit in this case was the East African Road Corps, moreover, although no Theatre code is shown, it would have been number 4 prior to the 31st December 1915 and after that it would be, 5A, which was East Africa, Nyasaland and Northern Rhodesia.

Regarding those "hun" clasps, there is no way that this man could have earned a Kolonial Denkmunze with a Sudwest Afrika 1901 clasp as he was serving with the Seaforth Highlander's in South Africa at the time, moreover, I suggest that he could not have have been a recipient of their Sudwestafrika Denkmunze either, with the other three clasps.
This latter was awarded to some members of the Cape Mounted Rifles though, for the near genocide that took place in 1907.
Be good if he was though! :woohoo:
Kind regards Frank
