Dear All

I have an interesting QSA bars Tvl SA01 SA02 named to

Tpr J Delaney Int Burgher Scts

I would imagine that this unit is early version of the FID or is its something else. I have never seen any reference to it ever. Can anyone shed any light on this unit.

He has a nice Scottish name

Kind regards

Munroe

Munroe,

What an interesting unit name. I have not heard of this unit before. I thought it might be connected with the Burgher Scouts that became the National Scouts but don't think this is the case.

I cannot locate this J Delaney on the roll.

Do you have any more information about him?

Regards
David

Trooper Joseph Delaney served with the Burgher Intelligence Scouts from the 1st of December 1901 to the 30th of June 1902, his medal was issued on the 19th of April 1912 and sent to (PO) Box 45, Pietersberg, Northern Transvaal.
This man would have worked for the Military Intelligence Officer Zoutspanberg who also had the job of Assistant District Commissioner Northern Transvaal after his appointment at the special request of Lord Kitchener himself at the begining of 1902.

Frank,

With his forename, I found him on the FID roll (WO100/301p97).

The 'Intell Burgher Scts' is appended to his name but I wonder why his medal was not named to the FID?

A note on the roll says the name of Delaney was added 'after reference to Captain F R de Bertodano'.

With thanks
David

Going slightly off topic, de Bertodano was involved in the Morant incident.
