Good Evening Everyone…….

Earlier this month there was on our favorite auction site a no bar Queen’s South Africa Medal……

It had been made into a broach to be given maybe to a Wife or Sweetheart……

Even though I have been a collector of QSA’s for over 45 years I have never purchased one that had been made into a piece of jewelry…..

It started off really cheaply and I put in an original bid of $20.00…… Or I thought it was $20.00 but I had accidentally put in $120.00…..

I left the bid in and figured that someone would out bid me and I was sure that I would have been safe and someone did…..

Before the item closed I was talking to a fellow collector of QSA’s and he stated that he had placed a bid on a piece that had also been broached and when he removed the ring that was around the edge he found that the medal was named to a Nursing Sister and he had purchased it for less than $50.00…..

I thought about it a little and said to myself well I am going to take a chance and buy it and put in a maximum bid…… One of the things that was in my mind was that the seller was in Canada and there was a chance that the medal may have been issued to a Canadian…..

Well the item closed and I was the winner and waited till the medal arrived…….

It arrived today and then came the big question Do I or Don’t I remove the bezzel……..

Since I had purchased it to find out what was underneath the broach clasp I did…….

I am very glad that I did……

Under the bezel was the Officer Style engraved name…..

REV. J. G. MacLeod

Now the fun part comes..... Finding out who Reverend MacLeod was…..

Thanks for reading…..

Mike,

You will have to start collecting by denomination soon and then of course by grade!

If he was attached to the ASH, you'll be able to track his movements and there is more chance that he is mentioned in the histories I would imagine?

Best wishes
