A recent aquisition.

3515 Pte.Harry Baker 2nd Batt.The Devon Regiment
Wounded on 5th February 1900 at Potgieter's Drift

Harry Baker was born in 1875 at Brighton Sussex England
He attested for the Devon Regiment at Exeter on 11th June 1892 aged 17 years and 10 months giving his trade as labourer.
Harry's physical details at the time are given as:
Height 5ft 5" and weight 117lbs with a chest measurement of 32" in keeping with the "slender" build of the period.
His complexion is listed as "fresh" grey eyes and brown hair, his religous denomination was Church of England.
Private Baker spent the first 2 years on Home service were in that time he was trailed and convicted for breaking out of barracks, he seved 28 days.
In September 1994 he saw his first oversea's service in North India where he entered the Tirah Expeditionary Force.
His service in India lasted just over 5 years which earned him an India medal with clasps for Tirah and Punjab Frontier 1897-1898 this medal I do not have in my possesion :(
Harry is then posted to South Africa, he arrives on 8th December 1899 and leaves on 13th July 1900 during that time he is wounded at Potgieter's Drift on 5th february 1900
After spending just over a year at Home he is again sent to South Africa where he serves for a further 1 year and 37 days
He returns home again on 12th October 1902 and completes his 16 years service.
For his service in South Africa Pte.Baker was awarded the QSA with clasps Relief of Ladysmith and Tugela Heights.
Harry spent his remaining days in Crewe England, he died on 19th October 1939 leaving a Widow. R.I.P.

A very good medal! I expect he was sent back to Britain for treatment of his wound, hence no post-Ladysmith clasps. Since he later returned to SA, he should have been entitled to state/date clasps. I wonder if there is a supplementary roll?

There is indeed such a roll, but, he does not appear to be on it.

Yes when I am his service history I wondered about additional clasps but as Frank has shown nothing on the supplementary roll.
