There is such a pair being auctioned tonight on Spink and I am thinking of having a go, but I'm struggling to spend money on something without a name, as it can't be researched and feels sort of lifeless.

How would they get out without a name, especially a pair? Was there a known event in the past where some got sold off, maybe after 1983 when they stopped claims for them?

Good morning Ryan,
Yes, I noticed those, lot 296, really nice condition too, but, because they are not named they do not interest me.
That being said, if you just want them as specimen examples of each medal, that would be okay, if the price realised, refects that they are unnamed, which I am sure they will be and not erased.
Things do sometimes come out of various mints and governments, some quite legitimate, others because of misappropriation, Rhodesia was and South Africa is notorious, don't worry, Spink will give you a receipt! :)
Good luck if you bid.
Regards Frank

I'm leaving them, I just can't do it since they don't have a name. It's been many years since I bought something because it was a medal, as opposed to a particular unit or person on a medal. And I don't see myself needing them as a gap filler anytime soon. I only have on DTD/ABO and I will have to be content with Mnr Furstenburg!

Hi everybody

In the 1930's and early 1940's a number of unnamed examples were sold to collectors.

A number of museums also requested examples : maybe this pair was "liberated" from such a source!!
