This one was dug out of a Dealer's list several weeks ago; QSA with bars CC/JOH/DH/Witte impressed naming to "338 Trpr. A.H.BERRY, CEYLON M.I.". I don't recall seeing one of these before. The clasps are rivetted together but not attached to the suspension. Stirling tells us the Sqn (125 souls) was praised by Gen. Roberts for good work on the way to Bloemfontein. After DH, they took part in the 1st DeWet Hunt and were present with General Clements at Nooigedacht on 131200. The unit appears to have been in the camp during that debacle and not on the perimeter; difficult to tell. They did, however, suffer 4 casualties. The unit sailed for home "after about a year's service". Conan Doyle (always having a way with words!) described the "strange, invading army" heading towards Poplar Grove as being "drawn from five continents and yet had no alien in its ranks". There was a unit history of the Ceylon MI; apparently very rare indeed. Perhaps a Forum member has/has access to a copy? I live in hope.
Please note (for those who set store by such things), the medal has its original ribbon. I would lose no sleep whatever if it did not.
Regards to all
IL.

Good morning Ian,
The roll is in WO100/211 pages 170-179 this also includes a nominal roll with regards to the issue of medals.
On the main roll there are 132 men shown including your man, the spelling of his name differs on both rolls, but, his number remains the same and his clasp entitlement is correct.
Kind regards Frank

Note the OFS clasp cross out

Hello Ian

I have previously seen this medal offered with the research that Arthur H Bury served WW1 with the East African Ammunition Column and Ross's Scouts. There is an MIC for this man, but I can't find anything to connect this AH Bury with the Ceylon MI man.

Regards
