QSA (5) Talana, Defence of Ladysmith, Orange Free State, Laing’s Nek, Belfast (4849 [sic]. Corpl: J. Jones. 18/Hrs.) second digit of number corrected;
KSA (2) (4049 Corpl: H [sic]. Jones. 18th. Hussars.)

John Jones was born in India in 1872 and attested for the 18th Hussars on 9 February 1893. He served with the Regiment in India from 29 September 1893 to 14 October 1898, and then in South Africa from 15 October 1898 to 8 February 1905, being discharged on the latter date after 12 years’ service.
