Dewald Nel is auctioning the QSA to Tpr William Ainsworth, ex ILH, named to the SALH.

Ainsworth was wounded in action against de Wet at Springkaan Nek on 14 December 1900. He died at Thabanchu the next day.

Bidding currently stands at R 7500, GBP 400, Au$ Au$, Can 665 so probably has some way to go before it finishes in a week's time.

I know the next 2.5 years will prompt many posts commemorating the 120th anniversary of Boer War events but I could not let the Elandslaagte anniversary go unacknowledged.

The Ainsworth QSA sold on BoB last night for just less than R11,000, of GBP 575, Can$ 975 and Au$ 1,080 which I thought was quite reasonable.

I think that was a very good buy for the lucky winner, after all, the price the recipient had to pay is incomparable, he was subsequently buried at Thabanchu.
