Gentlemen,
On the eve of yet another anniversary of the battle of Paardeberg I found myself looking at the medal roll of a regt that took a prominent part, that of the 1st Welsh and came across the entry regarding a medal having been turned into a brooch before being scrapped, the recipient having died and no next of kin being found.
Has anybody else seen anything similar before?
Frank

Would this entry mean that the medal was issued, converted into a brooch and later surrendered? That is the only reason I can think of to cause such an entry.

Frank,

No, I haven't seen anything like that before. How unusual!

Hello Ian,
I don't know, just not something I'd expect to see, this man, 6336 Pte J Jones also has a entry in their supplementary roll, regarding his South Africa 1901 clasp, but nothing in the remarks column other than "proceeded to United Kingdom"
Regards Frank

Hello David,
Yes, most unusual, first I've seen for a QSA.
