Hello

I've recently rediscovered my great grand fathers war medals and noted that he served throughout the boer wars.

I know the general history of the wars but nothing specific. Can anyone assist me with info in relation to his medals?

They are all fascinating and, from left to right, go from him as a private to corporal and then to sergeant. He was in the Army Service Corps and two of his medals are unfortunately mispelled with the surname Hemery.

Of specific interest is the medal near the middle with the purple ribbon with white lines on each edge. I can't seem to find that ribbon anywhere. Am I missing something?

Any information is very much appreciated.

Good evening and welcome to this forum,
As far as his Boer War medals go, they are verified in WO100/214 page 30 and WO100/349 page 428 as serving with Number 38 Company ASC and "E" Supply Company ASC with the rank of Lance Corporal.
Regards Frank

Frank

Thanks very much for the quick reply. Am I correct in assuming that WO100/214 and WO100/349 are the the records at the National Archives? Sorry to be such a dunce but I'm just starting out.

Yes, they are the medal roll entries, for the QSA and KSA.

The purple and white ribboned medal looks like the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. It should say so on the reverse.
