Another lovely group from the next DNW sale is this BSA CM group to Pte W Cooper of the Hampshire Regiment.

I think the clasp on the BSA CM makes all the difference.

The group consists of BSA CM, reverse Rhodesia 1896, 1 clasp, Mashonaland 1897 (3624 Pte., 2/Hampshire Regt.), QSA (5) DD Paar Joh DH Witt (3624 Pte., 2nd Hampshire Regt,.), KSA (2) (3624 Pte, Hampshire Regt.).

The estimate is £650-750

Good Morning David,
I think the BSA Co medal is one of the most pleasing medals ever made! :)

Frank,

I'm not sure why it is so appealing? Perhaps the combination of the deep relief, suspender and chunky clasps?

Is the disc pinned at slightly the wrong place in this example with the result that the Queen is looking upwards rather than straight ahead?

Regards
David

David,
It is the suspension and the reverse that rocks my boat! :woohoo:
Perhaps too, the trouble to which Cecil Rhodes went, to ensure his boys got a medal!

I agree! I have only three of these medals in my collection - all to the Natal Troop - and they elevate the groups they are in to be amongst my favourites.

David, I think you are right about Victoria's outlook. I do not remember noticing anything similar before you pointed out this example.

Brett

Good morning Brett,
Wilst I have some BSA Co medals, I have not a single example to the Natal Troop! :(
