Evidently this canine entitlement is another avenue of research for us.

Unlike the earlier equine entitlement, I presume there are no entries in the rolls for any of these dogs?

Good evening David,
But that does rather beg the question as to how these medals were paid for, if actually from the public purse?

t's a very good question. As a Grenadier (even having served in the remainder company of old 3rd Battalion, now named the Inkerman Company) I should really know about 'Modder'! I will have fun following this up with RHQ.

With the Covid restrictions easing last week, I visited my local antiques and collectible centre to have a mooch about. Not a great deal of Anglo Boer War items for sale. However, there was a box of military postcards which looked interesting. I started to have a look through them, mostly WW1 photographs and a few embroidered cards to loved ones and at the back in a brown envelope I found 4 hand tinted postcards. Not a bad price a few quid each, and look who turned up? Modder the Grenadier Guards dog.
Now judging by this posts age, I imagine the medal bar configuration was never solved? So, I think Private Modder the farm collie who served with the 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards is entitled to the classic GG combination pair. QSA- Belfast, Diamond Hill, Johannesburg, Driefontein, Modder River & Belmont & KSA. Any other suggestions would be most welcome.

You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave
