I think, from memory, you are looking at about 160 or so clasps to imperial troops,

In addition to "Barton's Hundred" there was also M Battery RHA - I just counted 92 RoM clasps, so the Imperial troops figure is over 200 with various hangers on.

Kaplan published a RoM roll, I don't know if it has any stats in it.

When I've finished databasing the Wepener clasp I think RoM would be a good one to get accurate figures for.

A very nice 'Double Relief' medal. 'Barton's Hundred' was created to represent Great Britain at the Relief of Mafeking, men were drawn from English, Irish, Welsh and Scots Fusilier regiments.

Hello Meurig,
Well, I did say from memory, do you know how many single Relief of Mafeking clasps were issued?

Hello Meurig
Now I had not looked at this since I was little more than a boy, but, I have just taken another look at M Battery in WO100/139 and I counted only 55 such clasps!
At first I thought perhaps I'd missed their additional supplementary roll, pages 79 to 86.
Does your figure include odd men? as my "from memory around 160" figure does not!
Regards Frank

Hello Mike,
Well, I said "from memory around 160" it was twenty years ago now, I was very young then and was concerned only with fighting men, guns and flashing bayonets, not odd men and boot polishing grooms, moreover I had thought there were only two sections of M battery present!
So I'm not going to worry here about the exact figure, I established as a boy that they were rare!

How many single clasp medals does our friend Mr Kaplan say were issued?

Thanks very much Mike!

Regards as always Frank
