A friend has asked me to research a 5 clasp QSA to:
3237 Pte.D.McFarlane Royal Scots Fusiliers
With the clasps RofM, Tugela Hts,OFS,RofL and Transvaal
I am unable to find any service record on Find my Past but I have confirmed the clasps on the Ancestry medals rolls.
I am assuming RSF were maybe a relief column to Mafeking?
Would this be a rare and unusual combination?
Thank you for any advice.

Paul :)

Hi Paul,
Yes they are rare and well worth having!
The men (from memory, 99, from the the 4 regts) were drawn from Barton's Fusilier Brigade and were part of Colonel Mahon's flying column that relieved Mafeking from the south, Colonel Plumer came down from Rhodesia with his men.
Regards Frank

Hello Frank,
Thank you for your answer.
Just a shame there is a lack of papers.
My friend has bought it and is just awaiting for it to arrive, he certainly knows how to make me envious!

Paul :)

Hi Paul,
I think, from memory, you are looking at about 160 or so clasps to imperial troops, so really, when I said rare, I should have said very rare!
That particular clasp is also very nice as a single clasp medal!

Hi Frank,
Yes I thought they may be quite rare when I saw only this one on the medal roll page.
He has told me what he paid for it, out of my budget I am afraid :S
