Here's a nice group to a sapper whose QSA is named to him in the Telegraph Battalion RE, which is quite uncommon. William James Streets had a long career with the Post Office and served in both the ABW and WWI as a telegraphist. He was ultimately awarded the ISM for 25 years of meritorious service. It's a very nice group that demonstrates proudly his work in telegraphy for over 40 years.

ISM (GVI) WILLIAM JAMES STREETS

William James Streets born Hackney, Middlesex in 1864. Married Mary Jane ? (1866-?) of Bedeford, Devonshire. They had a daughter Mary Jane Streets (1890-?) who was born in Camberwell, Surrey. According to the1921 Census, she was a 31-year-old spinster working as a clerk at the Labour Exchange at Camberwell Green. In 1921, Streets worked for the General Post Office South E (East) District. They lived a 50 Radnor St. Peckham. Streets was in the London Gazette of 1 July 1910 when he was promoted “without competition” to Telegraphist in Birmingham. His ISM (GVI) was announced in the London Gazette on 11 May 1943 when he was an Overseer in the Manchester Post Office. William Streets died on 7 March 1959. In Birmingham, the probate was awarded on 27 May to Edward Charles Cubitt Piggott who was a retired Telephone area engineer. His effects totaled L737. Is. 6d.
