The phrase "see Medal Roll 28 RD" is written next to the Queen's South Africa Medal Roll entry of my great great grandfather 624 PTE George Poole 2nd Battalion The Gloucestershire Regiment. Does anyone know which Roll it is referring to?

I've tried searching on ancestry for the following to no avail:

- Remount Depot
- Remount Department
- Regimental Depot
- Regimental District
- Riding Depot

He was hit in the left knee by a piece of shrapnel at Klip Drift on the 16th February 1900 and did not return to active service, so I thought it might be a roll of those ' Recently Discharged', but I have not been able to find anything in the TNA catalogue, other than the Gloucestershire regiment roll.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

DJT,

The Gloucestershire Regiment was formerly the 28th Regiment of Foot prior to the 1881 reforms.

The 28th Regimental District was located in Gloucestershire.

Several men on his page of the QSA roll have this annotation which refer to a medal roll for the men of Gloucesters moved to the Depot.

A few pages of the medal roll were created in Bristol so I imagining this is a reference to those pages. This from WO100/183p511

There are no Boer War service papers available for him so it is not clear when he returned to the UK. It may be that, as few men in the Depot would have been entitled to further QSA clasps or the KSA, that the rolls were not included with the other pages for the Gloucesters.

Best wishes
David
