The Colonial Light Horse were formed on 7 January 1901 as the second battalion of the Duke of Edinburgh's Own Volunteer Rifles. The unit was disbanded at the end of the war.

QSA (3) Cape Colony, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (897 Tpr. H. Pendle. Colonial L.H.) possible correction to unit number [sic]

CC confirmed on the DEOVR roll WO100/242p21. SA01 and SA02 listed on the DEOVR roll WO100/242p83.

How some medals came to be named to the CLH rather than DEOVR is not clear.
