I have been researching the background of William Sayer Power DSO. There is a brief bio of him online, which I attach. I am wondering if anyone knows more about the actions that earned him his awards, the injury he received, or even where there might be a photo of him. Thanks so much for any ideas.

RailwayGuy,

Welcome to the Forum.

Many of the Boer War DSO so not have a citation linked to them so it can be very difficult to trace a particular action.

He was mentioned in despatches but this again was a general mention. MID LG: 10 September 1901, page: 5964. Source: Field Marshal Roberts. 4 September 1901. Re: General mentions.

It would be worth searching newspapers of the time and also looking for an obituary as he was still alive at the time the VC and DSO but was published in the 1920s. He died 30 April 1940 in Burton upon Trent.

Few of the IY units have a account of their time in South Africa but there are accounts on this site of the engagement Biddulphsherg, Lindley (1 June), Rhenoster River, Lindley (26 June), Bethlehem (6 and 7 July), Wittebergen (1 to 29 July).

There is no picture of him on Ancestry that I can see.

Best wishes
David
