Hi
James Hyslop (1856-1917) studied at Edinburgh University, Berlin, Vienna and Munich. He specialised in 'mental diseases', and went on to hold the post of Principal Medical Officer to the Natal Militia and President of the Natal Medical Council, amongst several other official medical positions. During the Boer War, as surgeon and officer at the Siege of Ladysmith, he received the DSO (London Gazette 19 April 1901), and was twice mentioned in dispatches.
