For any members who might not have seen this, there is a large selection of ABW medals (200) coming up for sale at Aubreys Auctions, Guildford, on 31 January.

An enjoyable auction sale at Aubrey's today, I got to follow a good session of it between work!
It would have been all to easy to get carried away with some of the offerings to the Grenadiers, but happy with the three lots I got the winning bids on.
Another medal sale in the spring apparently.

Hi Steve,

Yes it was a good auction and a white glove one at that; I wonder if all the lots all came from one collector.

I was only successful on one medal but was very excited to pick up a little gem which I will post shortly.

There was also a Spioenkop KIA Queen Sudan Medal (Lot 188) that I was the under bidder on; it looks like a few folks also did their pre-auction research as the bidding was strong.

Even the WW2 medals (Singapore POW's) sold well.

Regards,
Shaun

Hi Shaun,

If it was from one collector, he/she would certainly have enjoyed a good lifetime getting it all together!

I missed the Spioen Kop KIA, there were just so many great medals to research pre-sale.

I got a couple for the ubiquitous Northumberland Fusiliers (one wounded at Belmont 23/11/1899, particularly pleased with that one) and, of course, I had to pick up one of the Worcestershire Regiment pairs.

Biographies to follow soon. Look forward to reading yours.

Cheers Steve

Steve,

Well done on your purchases.

There were so many QSAs and so little biographical information that there may well be many gems to be uncovered in the lots.

Best wishes
David

Buyers were spoiled for choice and, as you correctly say David, there were so many items on offer that it would have taken many man hours to conduct pre-research. I must confess to being slightly worried that, with such a plethora of medals on offer, prices would suffer. My concern was unfounded as prices, I felt, were strong.

I bought the QSA/KSA /Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve medal to Nursing Sister Nora Valentine Blythe.

An added bonus was that, should one have spent in excess of £500, the postage is free. It proved to be the case as my invoice when I paid it did not include postal charges.

Regards

Rory
