TOPIC:

Various books recite that the maximum number of bars is 9 for the army and 8 for the navy. These seem to be repeated from earlier editions way back to pre-digital era.

A 10 bar QSA army medal in the Ditsong (South African) National Museum of Military History has been considered an error - whilst it may have been issued with 10, the 2 date bars belonged to the recipients KSA.

There are a number of confirmed 8 bars to the Rimington / Damant unit. So who got the 9 bar medal?

In addition, for the navy, tables do show 24 eight bars medals to Doris / Monarch / Powerful.

(I did look for an existing thread on this topic but failed)

Riminton guides/Damant's Horse = 34
Army Service Corps = 2
14th Hussars = 2
9th Lancers = 1

I have 2 in my collection 1 to ASC and the other to Damant's Horse

There are 9's. There are Variants, my ASC is different to my Damant's Horse.

Quite impressive that after 50 years since Duxbury first article in 1972 this seems close to the the definitive position - although how one finds two 9 bars in the ASC (see above) in particular shows some dedication to trawling through all the rolls.
