9010 Sgt D. Clarke Rifle Bde

I have just received a QSA for the above chap (LN, TVL, R of L, TH and CC) and was worried when I saw the naming style as it looked private however when I checked 'British Battles' it was very similar to an example there.

I am 80% happy but can anyone comment to lower my 20% of doubt?

Also there is no research for him and I only have a brief snippet on FMP.

Therefore it would be nice if someone could find any info on him

Many thanks

Wayne

As you say, it looks OK and I would have to agree. The surface of the naming looks flat (i.e., not rounded) and the dots look correct. However, I would check three diameters of the medal disc with a Vernier to be sure. Just now, I ran my Vernier over an engraved QSA to 19th Hussars (unfortunately, the medal's deep toning made photography of the naming difficult) and it measured out at 1.430" over three diameters. There has been a small variation in diameters noted over a number of engraved QSAs over the years - but very little.
I have attached a pic of an engraved QSA/KSA named to on officer to illustrate the flat naming surface, etc. Doubtless, the engravers back in those days used a lettering style guide - but small variations occur.
Regards
IL.

I had a look on the NA for his QSA clasp entitlement and it is as shown on your pic (page 15 of WO100/210 (1st Rifle Brigade).

Thanks IL

No Vernier I'm afraid but with the 'British Battles' guide and your examples I am now very happy with the naming and pleased to say I am 99% happy which is much better than the 80% previously :)

However I still have next to no info on him and he doesn't even appear on this sites database as being entitled and so I am still not sure what he is entitled too?

Regards

Wayne

Wayne......

There is a note below the picture from IL giving the medal roll location and page....... His papers may have been among the burnt papers from WW2 bombing......

I had a look on the NA for his QSA clasp entitlement and it is as shown on your pic (page 15 of WO100/210 (1st Rifle Brigade).
