They don't seem to have done an awful lot.... here is my one and only medal to them

Describes as: A South Africa group of three to '4052 Corpl J Francis 20th Hussars' Queens' South Africa Medal with four clasps named as per title, War Medal '3055 Sjt J Francis 14-Hrs' and George V Army LSGC 'Sqdn Sgt Maj. **** J Francis Surma Valley Lt Horse' *Notes- The Surma Valley Light Horse regiment was an Auxiliary Forces army unit of the British Indian Army. It was a volunteer corps unit made up mostly of the tea planters from the Sylhet region. The military force was raised on 22nd October 1880 as the Sylhet Volunteer Rifle Corps by the British administration in India. In 1883 it became the Cachar and Sylhet Mounted Rifles with the motto "Non Sibi Sed Patriae" (not for self but for country, a common motto currently used by the US Navy!). Eventually on 13th August 1886, the volunteer corps unit was designated as the Surma Valley Light Horse with headquarters at Silchar, presently in the Indian state of Assam. It was disbanded along with all other Indian Auxiliary Force units in 1947, when India gained Independence.

Harry Stuart Horsham was born in Sidbury, Devon, on 3 May 1874. He attested into the 20th Hussars and served in South Africa during the Boer War. He served during the Great War on the Western Front from 6 July 1915 and was discharged on 16 November 1917. Awarded a Silver War Badge, No. 283,859.

He died in Bournemouth, Hampshire, in 1937.
