A man called Thomas Edward Davies served in the SALH gaining CC. OFS and Tr. 41470 Trooper. WO!00/275p17.

Perhaps a coincidence but the attestation is witnessed by a Captain in the SAMIF.

I think you have the right man. Many thanks for the additional information and the possible Transvaal enigma. Very much appreciated.
