I found my grandfather referenced on your website:
www.angloboerwar.com/unit-information/so...african-constabulary
Name Search returned Henry NEM - Notes - Source: QSA and KSA medal rolls

I would like to know more about the Source, this search refers to, are there original documents somewhere I can look through.

One site I found that seems to have pictures of original documents from South Africa is: www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/5436...%20History%20Library
Do you think I would be able to view the QSA & KSA medals rolls referenced in that collection of microfilms?

Hi Peter
I have found 3 medal rolls pertaining to your Grandfather Nelson Henry. One of them states Constable and the other two are marked Trooper. His QSA medal was awarded with 5 clasps. Orange Free State, Cape Colony, Transvaal and the 2 date clasps 1901 -1902.
He left Durban South Africa on the ship Dunnottar Castle and arrived in Southampton on the 13th April 1904. His trade stated was Blacksmith. He was aged 27

Hi Dave,

Wow, thank you very much. That is a lot of information, so great to know. Love the confirmation that his final rank was Constable, as Constable was listed on his headstone, but I was unsure if that was a Rank or a Position within the SAC. Also great to find out the information about when he left South Africa as we were wondering when he might have returned to Canada. I really appreciate all the information and the document copies.

Again thank you so much, my older sister is making up a complete family history for the Henry side of the family, as she was the only sibling that was old enough to have met my grandfather. She will be thrilled with the additional information.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter
Your very welcome.
Your Grandfather didn't hang around long in England. He sailed out of Liverpool on the ship Lake Champlain on the 19th of April 1904 and arrived in Halifax Nova Scotia on the 30th of April 1904.
Regards
Dave

Constable/Private Nelson E.M. Henry
Interesting info taken from Ancestry UK.....
This throws the cat amongst the pigeons regarding his time in SA

First served as a Private in the Devon Light Inf.(English) During the Boer War in South Africa of 1899-1902. After the war he volunteered to stay in South Africa with the South Africa Constabulary (Military Police Force) He served with them during the First world war of 1914-18. After the war he continued to serve with the S.A. Constabulary until 1922 when he came to Canada and started working with the B.C. Police stationed in Cloverdale Surrey until he retired in 1945. He died Nov. 17th 1952 of heart failure at age 79 and was buried in The Surrey Center Cemetery by the local Royal Canadian Legion.
This information is on Ancestry via Find a Grave .com
There is also a picture of Nelson, a death certificate and 2 images of his grave stone.
And a link to his wife Eve ( Wix) Henry
Regarding the time lines ,more research is required to substantiate his time in SA and WW1. Also his profession on his death certificate says he was a harness maker. Clarification is certainly required for the above statement regarding his long police career.

Best regards
Dave
