Hi,

I have recently picked up a QSA to a member of the 2nd Contingent, New Zealand Mounted Rifles. The medal roll mentions that a replacement was issued in 1922, and my medal is certainly not the original one he received in 1901 so is presumably this replacement. I note the suspender on this one does not swivel, so my question is what are other's experiences of replacement QSAs with non-swivelling suspenders?

Regards

Phil

Many years ago, I chanced upon a QSA named to a member of the SALH and the word "Replacement" was impressed after the naming. That medal had a fixed (non swivelling) suspender. I must say that I have not seen another such. In those days it was not easy from OZ to check the rolls and see if any replacement of the original medal had been made and (with luck), when. I just assumed that it had been made using a WW1 BWN suspender.

Hi Phil......

I also have a QSA with fixed suspender and bars/clasps which was issued in the late 1920's as a replacement for a wartime lost medal, the naming on the medal is the small size type as used in WW1.....

Hi
I got a CGHGSM and QSA reissued in the 1940s.
The QSA got a swivel suspender.

Thanks for the comments. Mine is also impressed in the small WW1 style, so I'm happy it is the replacement. Obviously it's not an exact science as to whether post-WW1 replacement QSAs swivelled or not, but the fact that others exist from the period is good enough for me.

Cheers

Phil

Would the replacement, be coming from local stock or returned, skimmed and officially renamed?
