QSA (4) Belmont, Modder River, Transvaal, Wittebergen (6610 John Tynan. Royal Irish Fus.);
KSA (2) (6610 John Tynan. Royal Irish Fus.).

Mounted as worn, naming on both unofficially re-engraved, post loose on first, contact wear, overall nearly very fine (2)

John Tynan was born at Dublin, Ireland in 1881, the son of Kate Tynan. He served in the Militia with D Company Dublin Fusiliers with the Number 4726 before enlisting with the Royal Irish Fusiliers on 5 July 1889. By the start of the Second Boer War he was serving with 19th Battery, Royal Field Artillery. Transferring back to the Royal Irish Fusiliers on 5 July 1899 he was posted to 1st Battalion and severely wounded in action near Bethulie on 25 October 1901. Note the casualty roll shows his name as 'Tynan, W' but gives the correct number and his injury is confirmed in his service papers. Posted to India on 17 January 1903 he remained there until 10 January 1907 when he returned to Britain. Arrested for drunkenness on 23 March 1907, Tynan was detained and transferred to the Army Reserve on 4 July 1907 before being discharged altogether on 4 July 1911.
