QSA (1) Natal (7162 PTE W. COOPER, VOL: COY MIDDX: REGT), impressed, very fine.

Attested at Hounslow 21/02/1900, stating previous service with the Royal Irish Rifles and belonging to the Middlesex R.V.C.. Served in South Africa from 10/03/1900 until discharged at his own request 18/10/1900. A stationer in civilian life.

Alfred Porter. Born 1882 in Birmingham. Served in the second battalion. Service papers extant.

No clasp medals listed as being issued 18 August 1902 on WO100/195p57. SA01 on WO100/195p143.

From the City Coins auction, 4 November 2022

QSA (4) Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal (5070 Pte T. Dignum, Middlesex Regt);
KSA (2) (5070 Pte T. Dignum, Middlesex Regt)

Short Service Attestation document name given as 5070 Francis Dignum.

On 6 February 1902 another patrol of the Mounted Infantry Company, under Lieutenant J. St John Secker, and the garrison of Beacon Hill (Near Utrecht), were engaged with superior numbers of the enemy, and Lieut Secker (who was slightly wounded), Sergeant Barton and Private Dignum fell into the hands of the enemy but were released the same day.

Russia, Empire, Medal of St George for Bravery, 3rd Class, silver (468 Pte J. Frengh. 4/Midlx. R.) impressed naming, note spelling of surname

DCM LG 1 April 1915: ‘For conspicuous gallantry, great initiative, and coolness at Vierstraat on 26th February, 1915. A German bomb [minenwerfer] having been thrown into our trenches with consequent great destruction and confusion, Private French at once took charge, had the parapet manned, rapid fire opened on the enemy, wounded collected, and the fire in the dug-out extinguished - all this with the utmost promptitude. Subsequently he gave his attention to dressing the wounds of his comrades.’

Russian Medal of St George, 3rd Class LG 25 August 1915.

Joseph French served in France from 22 October 1914, as a Private in the 4th Middlesex Regiment, part of 8th Brigade in the 3rd Division.

Hi,

I have just purchased Robert's Tunic from an auction in Australia.

(Bought it because my surname is Yeoman and would make a good talking point).

Thought I would share, these photos. I heard his medals sold in 2020 for 3200 pounds
