I have been researching a Wepener man, John Lottering who served with Brabant's Horse, Nesbitt's Horse and Gorringe's Flying Column.

The entitlement to a KSA was 18 months of service which equates to 365 x 1.5 = 547.5 which could be rounded to 547 or 548.

The KSA for John Lottering was held over as his service only summed to 546 days. So close!

So near, yet, so far, but, rules were and still are, rules.

If anyone had a reasonable cause to append a KSA to his group it was surely this man. We have seen them added in much weaker cases in the past.

I think that being a "Walt" a wretched Walter Mitty is certainly not a recent phenomenon as you say.

I guess in a way I know how he feels.... When I was due to retire I was 2 days short of a 100% pension, if I had retired on the day I was supposed to I would have only got 77.5%..... So you can guess I had to work an extra year and got the 100% …..
