Hello,
I am trying to determine if a specific man who served in the Natal Rebellion received the Natal Rebellion Medal. I haven't been able to locate his name in the online Medal Roll available, but note this is only 9000+ medals of 20000 or so awarded. Is there a definitive roll which contains all recipients? His name was Henry Cadell.

Tim,

The roll of names on the Natal 1906 page is I believe complete at 9,281 names. Where does your 20,000 number come from?

There is no one with the surname Cadell on the list. There are near matches eg Cadle and Caddell.

He may have been involved in the rebellion but not entitled to the medal or not involved at all?

Kind regards
David

Cheers David,
On one of the blurbs I read. I should have stuck with Wikipedia.

I wonder of anyone could give me a steer on tracking Cadell's movements in South Africa. I certainly know he went there from Australia and was in Pretoria in 1906.

I can't find anything in transport records at all. Are there Muster Rolls for the Transvaal Mounted Rifles or Census records I might draw upon?

In his WW1 Service Papers with the Australian Imperial Force he mentions 18 months service with Transvaal Mounted Rifles. Might there be other units he served with?

I would be interested to see the details regarding any prior service upon the Great War papers mentioned, I do not think the Transvaal Mounted Rifles were actually extant for eighteen months, very clearly, any service, whatsoever, in that unit would suggest he must have served in one other, simply because it was only a composite regiment.
