Adding ABO details to the forum I came across this pair listed by City Coins in June 2004.

BSACM rev: Rhodesia 1896 (Trooper J.M. Bennett BBP);
ABO (Burger J.M. Bennett)

Details here .

It would certainly seem to be an unusual combination. Has anyone seen another?

Thank you Adrian.

Here is the photo from the cover of his biography. The picture is a little difficult to see but the BSACM suspender is clear on the top right.

There are 4 possible combinations of the ABO and 1890 clasp, of which two were issued and are known to exist, Nicholson being one of them. I have not looked at the other BSAC medal clasps in relation to the ABO, but given the numbers I suspect there are quite a few such combinations. Given how the world in that area was opening up at the time, there were a lot of people moving around and many went into Rhodesia but did not stay as it didn't work out for them, and then they found themselves making a go of it in the ZAR and suddenly there was another war. In both countries they were just trying to make a life, and everyone served in some form, and now they were defending their livelihood again.

Hi
Does anyone have Maj Nicholson's full medal entitlement. The BSAC with Mashonaland 1890 clasp, ABO and WW1 trio is described at the end of the book, and the OBE was awarded in 1919, London Gazette dated 13 Aug 1919, according to the book. I am curious as to what medal is worn directly next to his OBE. The 3rd and 4th ones appear to be his Zulu war medal, clasp??, and the Cape General Service medal, clasp? Thanks
