The purpose of this thread is to collate the different styles of naming of QSA awarded to RN officers. There is a separate thread for the naming style to RN men and NCOs .

BB&M suggests that RN medals are named in an impressed style similar to Army QSAs and also in a impressed serif font.

Please upload examples so that we can the variety of styles.

I will add the following to start things off......

HARRY WILLIAM CUTHBERT HUGHES, ROYAL NAVY, Lieutenant, H.M.S. Barracouta

Note the incorrect order of initials in name on medal.....

Thanks, Mike.

It is surprising how rough the officer's naming is compared to the beautiful engraving to Army officers.

Illustrated here is the engraved naming naming style upon a QSA to "Asst. Payr. A.C. BERE RN, HMS Sybille". Also illustrated is the naming style on his AGS clasp "Persian Gulf, 1909-1914".

Sorry about the blurred image in the latter.

Archibald Charles Stanley BERE had an interesting career. Whilst on the Australasian station, he was involved in the fighting on Samoa in 1899 (no medal or clasp awarded), served in his ranking on HMS Sybille and landed on duty at Lambert's Bay Jan and Feb., 1901. After the wrecking of HMS Sybille, he received an expression of their Lordship's appreciation for gallant behaviour in attempting to swim out and get hold of a drift line in heavy surf. Gallantry worthy of the highest praise. Later service in the Persian Gulf and active service in the Great War on board HMS Pembroke II.
Perhaps members might not mind my posting a pic of his medal group.

Regards to all
IL..
