Webb was issued with a replacement QSA on 15 November 1922.

The QSA has a fixed suspender and thinner flange.

Good Morning David.......

I am not surprised that he has a replacement medal with the losses in ships and men of the merchant marine......
Is there a way that you can find out what ships he served on?????
A Merchant Marine Archives of some kind?????

Nice group......

Mike,

The NA hold records of the Mercantile Marine. There are a couple of James Webbs so I need to clarify which one he is.

Kind regards
David

Webb might have served in the South African merchant navy. I have a couple of pairs in my collection, and I am sure that Rory has more. If he does not respond to these posts soon, I will see what I can find in my records.

The attached should answer your question Mike. There are only 3 James Webbs in the BT350 series with the other two born in 1888 and 1890+ respectively and thus too young to have served in the Boer War.

The Webb below fits snugly having been born in 1876. You can see from the card what ships he served on.

Regards

Rory
