Hi All

Please excuse my ignorance if this is a basic enquiry. I have a 7 clasp medal to the above. On ancestry it confirms 6 bars but I cannot find confirmation of the SA01 bar. The medal has a nice period silver bar on the top to allow for the medal to be worn and the bars look correct. Can anyone confirm if he is entitled to the SA01 bar.

I did a quick check of Find My Past and it is the same 6 Bars, no SA01.......

This medal was discussed on the BMF when "Butcher" owned it in 2012, this is what I wrote:

"His papers are on FindmyPast and they show he left SA 15 Feb 1901 which would ordinarily indicate he was entitled to SA01. However, on the roll it says he was sent to base in September [1900] - perhaps he was returned to Cape Town (a guess) and was not considered on the strength of the unit therefore not entered for the SA01 clasp.

I cannot see his name on the roll for the clasp."
