Kings South Africa with SA 01 and SA 02 Clasps

With the able assistance of FORUM Members and others (Rory, Audrey, Kevin et al) I have determined that a long owned Three Medal Group - KSA with 01 and 02, War and BiLingual Vict to PTE H. CROWHURST 34th IY and SASC is not correct. The KSA was not issued to CROWHURST, rather the 01 and 02 Clasps were issued later (1904) to add to the missing QSA with CC, OFS and TRANS.
Here is the should I or shouldn't I part. Even though CROWHURST must have had the KSA made up, should it be kept part of the Group or should I salvage the carriage and Clasps for other use.
Please give me your thoughts. I will abide by your vote.
Thanks. Baden Powell
By the way has anyone seen a QSA to 21136 H. CROWHURST! 34th I. Y. ?

The naming on the KSA is sloped engraved large and small caps with serifs, 21136 PTE H. CROWHURST 34TH COY IMP YEO. The edge shaving is barely noticeable. About 30 yrs ago with better eyesight it looked renamed and I so labeled it. Three months ago when I refound it in a dark drawer corner, and with my bad eyesight, it looked OK. Three weeks ago i had surgery on my left eye and a temp contact put into my right eye, I wasn't sure. At that point I had started really digging into CROWHURST. Hence the revelation its a fraud, like his lied about age to enlist and his WW I prior service claim. And that's so far I've found.

I would keep it as is with the BWM & VM. The renamed KSA forms part of the history of the man and his medals.

Yes, I agree, keep the renamed KSA with the medals (perhaps you might tie a note to its suspension; "not entitled"). It does appear that some veterans honestly considered themselves as entitled to the King's Medal because they served into part of 1902 - or just liked the idea of two medals. Impossible to say why at this remove. I would appreciate the Crowhurst group for the research you have done and for what it is.
Regards
IL.
